Religion- we will focus on learning about Advent and Advent customs. I made the students a packet from an old text we read, and they need to use this, as they will be tested upon the concepts in the packet. We will learn about the symbols of the Advent wreath, the three comings of Christ we celebrate, and why we have Christmas on December 25th. We will learn about St. Lucy Day in Sweden and Italy, St. Nicholas Day, and Las Posadas in Mexico, which reenacts Joseph and Mary searching for shelter. The vocabulary test over Advent words will count as a Religion quiz this Friday. I will also give a presentation about Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Reading- we did not get through my entire lesson plan last week, so we will read John Henry this week.

Genre-Tall tale with characters larger than life.

Essential Question: How can act of courage reveal a true person’s true character? Target skill- using details to locate figurative language, characters larger than life, a nemesis, slang, and an exaggerated birth story,

Spelling- The spelling test over Advent words will be next Thursday, December 21.

Grammar- we will learn about common and proper nouns. We ill learn we need to capitalize proper nouns.

Writing- we will begin our tall tales. I have a planning sheet and rubric for students to follow. We will begin with an exaggerated birth story.

Math- we ill begin our fraction unit finding equivalent fractions. We will compare and order fractions using a ruler, and we will rename fractions as decimals.
